The world, the flesh, and the devil.

The devil, of course, is George Bush, and most of the world knows it.
….John Kerry had said early in the campaign that world leaders preferred his presidency to four more years of another Bush regime.
The Bush camp challenged Kerry to prove the assertion, of course. They had no reason to believe that other world leaders weren’t fully committed to the policies of George Bush, they insisted, and, in fact, knew that it was just the opposite. It took months before the press even attempted to test the truth of the statement but when they did, lo and behold, they finally announced that “30 out of 35 major countries were solidly pro-Kerry, and only Poland of all the countries of Europe, was pro-Bush.”
This statement of Asian concerns they never published at all.
The quote above is from a must-read piece by Sr. Joan Chittister, OSB, and the “Statement of Asian concerns” to which she refers is a significant document that never made it into the American press. Read about it here in her column in the National Catholic Reporter.
Spread the word.
Oh, and in case you’re wondering about the “flesh” reference in the title of this post, lets just say it’s me sitting her at my computer stuck between the devil and the world.
ADDENDUM: I have to attribute fairly: I was led to this information from Natalie Davis’ post at BlogsSisters.

  1. This is a fantastic find! Congratulations and thank you!
It is unfortunate that the letter was unsigned.
I work in China and the English language used in the document appears to be that of a Chinese from the People’s Republic. Especially telling is the use of the word “hegemony,” a favorite of the Party propagandists when writing about the United States.
We definitely need to spread this word.
    Thanks again.
